Hungry and Thirsty?

February 12th, 2010

Psalm 42:1-2 reads, “As the deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  Where can I go and meet with God?”  Living in the land of 10,000+ lakes in Minnesota, I don’t know if we really get the word picture associated with this psalm.  The desert stream photo here gives a better picture of desperation.  In a desert climate if the deer or any creature doesn’t get water they die.  That’s the kind of desperation we need in our pursuit of God, because only a relationship with God can truly quench our thirst. During a time of prayer last week God gave Living Stones two pictures or visions of this kind of desperation for Him, 1) that God was giving Living Stones an unquenchable thirst that can only be met in Him, and 2) that God was raising up a greater desire in His body at Living Stones to passionately cry out for one another in prayer.  Amen, may it be so, and may only God give us the desire to go deeper in Christ and further in mission.

How often in my life have I tried to quench my thirst with worldly
“water” just to find myself thirsting for more? What an amazing
God we serve…the only One who can truly satisfy our thirst and
    set us free.

Sometimes when I’m praying for people it’s hard to put into words
what I’m praying for. That’s when an amazing picture like in Ps.
42 simply becomes my prayer for those people - that God would
create in them a hunger and thirst for Him. Knowing that when God
creates that hunger & thirst, He is also able to satisfy it.
