The Path

January 13th, 2010

Wouldn’t it be great if getting to our desired destinations in every area of life was as easy as following a straight path?  We all know that life is never easy and never as straightforward as we hoped things would be.  But in his book, The Principle of the Path, Andy Stanley shares that there is a powerful principle at work in the path of life.  And while it’s good to have resolutions and goals in the new year and beyond, Stanley says, our “direction - not intention - determine our destination”.  God’s Word says “In the path of righteousness is life, and its pathway there is no death.” (Proverbs 12:28)  Join us in this current sermon series as we evaluate our paths and encourage one another to keep stepping toward the destiny God has purposed for us.

What’s Missing?

December 22nd, 2009

If you look closely at the heart of the Foley Christmas tree, there’s something missing - a huge gap of red lights right in the center decide to die right before Christmas, how embarrassing!  We search throughout Target to replace them and there are no more red light strings, bah humbug!  Maybe Augustine would use this as an opportunity to get at the heart of our relationship with God when he said, “our loves are not rightly ordered”, and then to God he said, “Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee!”

Long before Augustine, Solomon was inspired to declare, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)  This Christmas I am so thankful that God has put eternity into our hearts and that our hearts can be rightly ordered and full of God’s love if we seek Him with all of our hearts. Speaking of lights, I can’t wait till we get to light real candles on Xmas Eve and share the only hope and answer to all our hearts, Jesus, the light of the World.  All are welcome, 3pm. Feast on This

December 15th, 2009

Unlike some of the earliest Living Stones potluck meals when we didn’t always have enough food to feed those at the back of the line, this one exceeded our common expectations.  Wow, that was a lasagna feast and then some.  Thanks to everyone who made this community  meal after our Sunday service possible - it was great!  Speaking of a feast, thanks also to our own Scott Harman who gave us something to feast on with his sermon, “Expectation.”  It was a heartfelt word and blew the bah-humbug dust off our Christmas experience. Thanks, Scott, for allowing God to show up and give us a greater hunger and expectation of Him this Christmas.  Thanks to everyone at Living Stones who makes it a joy and feast to gather and enjoy God’s presence in our midst.

Aahhh! The Good Life!

November 15th, 2009

The Ladies of Living Stones took some time to escape from the demands of their busy schedules for some hard core relaxation and pampering.  On Friday night the Boucher’s house was converted into a spa complete with a fountain, foot baths, massage chairs and a blazing fire.  Lots of good food and conversation was shared between manicures and making homemade lip gloss.  Perhaps a new annual (maybe monthly!) tradition is born.

Vote for Tradition!

November 9th, 2009

After such a beautiful weekend it’s hard to imagine that we’re just weeks away from Thanksgiving!  As a church, Living Stones has so much to be thankful for.   With that in mind we’d like to start a tradition of getting together for some fun on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, November 28.  We’d like to know how many people would be available as well as what kind of activity sounds most inviting.  Some ideas for activities are listed here and we’d like you to cast a vote for your favorite.  Either add your comment to this post or find the online survey by clicking here.

  • Ice Skating at the Depot
  • Gym time with games and activities (kickball, basketball, batting cage)
  • Bowling together
  • Holidazzle parade

Looking forward to your response and to seeing you on November 28!

Face Time

October 7th, 2009

This is one of the cute little faces of Living Stones, my 2 year-old daughter Faith.  For me, looking into her face is like looking into the loving face of God- I see his beauty, awesome creation, and overwhelming love.  This happens to be day 4, in our church’s collective reading of 40 Days, Living the Jesus Creed, and the title today is “Facing God Today”.  I hope you get the chance to read this and spend a little time in the amazing presence of God’s face, God’s love for us.(Let us know if you’d still like to get a book)

Looking at Faith also reminds me of God’s faithfulness to Living Stones.  Like her, our church is also 2 years-old, and as our Heavenly Father watches over Faith, so He too is watching, protecting, encouraging, and guiding His precious church at Living Stones.  Spend a little time in his presence, spend a little time giving thanks, and spend a little time asking for his continued faithfulness to protect and grow His beloved toddler called Living Stones!

Columbian Call: “Go to the other side”

September 30th, 2009

On Sunday September 27th, Covenant pastor Andres Bunch from Bogota, Columbia gave witness to God’s miraculous love and power at work on the streets and in transformed hearts of Columbians.  He exhorted Living Stones to follow Jesus’ call to “go to the other side”.  It was a powerful word and a special day to meet a brother in Christ from the other side. (Pictured, far left, pastor Walter Beltran, from the Covenant church in Belen, Columbia and long time disciple of pastor Bunch, next to him. On the other side of the door is me, pastor John, and then pastor Juan Lopez, childhood friend of pastor Bunch, and special friend to Living Stones and church planter: La Bendicion Covenant, Brooklyn Pk. 40 Days Living the Jesus Creed

September 21st, 2009

As a church, we’ll be doing “40 Days Living the Jesus Creed”. All community groups, youth, and everyone is encouraged to pick up this book ($10 suggested donation) and commit 40 days to a simple devotional reading as a church, as we read, pray, discuss, and listen to how God wants us to be shaped as disciples/followers and as a church to simply 1) Love God with all our hearts, and 2) Love our neighbors as ourselves. We’ll start reading Sunday, Oct. 4th, and the books can be picked up at church starting Sunday, September 27th.  If you’re interested in joining a community group or checking this out, let us know: “info@livingstonescov.org

3rd year at Covenant Pines Camp

September 4th, 2009

Fifty folks from Living Stones enjoyed an incredible weekend and our 3rd year in a row at Covenant Pines last weekend. As you can see from the photos, camp is always a special mix of faith & fun.  There are always great stories that come out of camp, and one will never know how God will use these experiences individually and as a community to transform lives and the church to truly be disciples and followers of Jesus Christ.
